Family Services

At times of transition, families often face emotional, logistical, and relational challenges - especially when caring for aging loved ones. Our family services are here to provide compassionate advocacy, clear communication, and personal guidance.

Whether you’re navigating elder care decisions, coordinating care plans, or managing family dynamics, we’re here to offer solutions grounded in empathy and experience, and always center your loved one’s well-being in every decision.

  • Black Hills Advocate provides support and coaching directly to caregivers. We work with you to identify coping strategies for your ever changing roles and responsibilities, including multiple ways to avoid completely burning out.

  • We can act as the on site “eyes and ears” for family members, providing timely info and support that allows you to be involved when you cannot be physically present.

  • We facilitate and coordinate family meetings involving decisions regarding care. This enables families to reach consensus and caregiving solutions. We are happy to assist if family dynamics are difficult or strained, and can help be a mediator during difficult times.

Planning Services

Let us help you implement cost efficient strategies for estate planning and Advance Directives including Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare, Power of Attorney for Financial Management, Living Will, etc. This offers peace of mind that your health care and end of life choices will be met should you become incapacitated. Legal documents are retained on file and can only be activated by a physician should a life event occur deeming the individual temporarily or permanently incompetent.

We also assist with guardianship applications should you have a loved one who was unable to implement advance directives prior to his/her incapacitation.

Financial Planning & Paperwork Assistance

Medical challenges often bring financial strain. We help by reviewing your resources, creating a strategic plan, managing routine bills, reconciling accounts, negotiating cost reductions, and providing monthly financial reports to you or a designated family member.

Applying for health insurance or financial assistance can be overwhelming. We simplify the process by evaluating your health and financial situation to identify the most suitable programs — including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Disability, VA benefits, and others.

  • We complete, review, and assist with organizing and submitting long-term care and health insurance claims, forms, and medical bills to be sure our clients are getting the most from their benefits. This also helps with overall cost.

  • We can identify appropriate services and providers, or assist in directing you towards them. Our referrals and recommendations come from years of expertise, experience, and relationships. We never receive incentives or commissions from any providers.

  • We research, evaluate, and arrange for senior living options, like assisted living, long term care facilities, residential care homes, and memory care.

Medical Services

Making sure you receive the best health care possible is our number one goal. The staff at Black Hills Advocate want to make sure you understand your health care options. We conduct the research and help you choose the appropriate health care provider(s). Our representative will accompany you to doctors’ visits, ask questions so you understand all possible treatment options and maintain a medical profile so testing and visits are followed to highest resolution.

We will also stop by your home or care facility for regular wellness checks, and we will coordinate all your services to make sure your needs are met, without duplication of services and/or cost. We always ensure our clients receive patient centered care and that his/her patient rights are respected.
